Traditional music, Cantonese story time and a curated food zone will all be part of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden's next community day as the cultural organization celebrates Hong Kong.
The free event (for B.C. residents) on July 9 will bring together pieces of the famed city's arts, food and history to the historic site in Chinatown, offering locals a chance to immerse themselves in Hong Kong culture.
"The garden will transform its space and activate three zones celebrating Hong Kong through the food at 'Gor May Street,' the language at 'Happy Valley Activity Zone' and the people at 'Central Shops District," say organizers in a press release.
Foods will include meat skewers, noodles in a bag, and Cantonese desserts, as well as Dicky Dumps, "serving up delicious curry fish balls and handmade small-batch dumplings," note organizers.
Children's activities will be a big part of the activity zone, with magic shows, music, and board games, along with a pop-up bookstore. The shopping area will include art, apparel, and other items found in Hong Kong. There will also be a scavenger hunt.
