Arcade games on sale from Movieland in Vancouver include a Playboy pinball game, the classic Galaga, a four-person Open Ice hockey game, and the driving game Crazy Taxi.

Movieland was one of the most iconic parts of Vancouver's Granville strip until it closed in 2021.

Even then the space remained, unused, at 906 Granville St. with the sign hanging above the door. The games have been stored as well.

Now, nearly 50 of the arcade's classic video games and pinball machines (along with other assorted items) are going up for sale through an online auction site.

The site AbleAuctions.ca has a total of 72 lots up for grabs from Movieland, with everything from Street Fighter 2 to Big Buck Hunter 2 to Time Crisis 2 for sale; the games show the breadth of what arcade games can be and the prevalence of sequels in the sector.

"A Vancouver landmark has closed, and now your favourite arcade games are up for grabs," states the local auction house on social media.

The games vary in price, with the opening bid for the Addams Family pinball game set at $4,500. Meanwhile, the one-person Extreme Hunting game (which needs repairs) starts at $25. In general, the pinball machines are going for much higher than the video games.

There's also a variety of parts and accessories up for auction as well. For example, a shelf of arcade machine decals and parts is going for $100.

The auction will take place on Thursday, June 13. Those who win their bidding battles will have to pick up the machines and games this weekend. The games aren't in Movieland anymore; the auction house has moved them to Langley.
