As the city works toward adding the Broadway Subway line, new designs have been released by the Broadway Subway Project Corporation.
Major construction is ready to start, according to a release from the province, but first they're looking for public feedback on the station designs they've come up with. An online open house runs until May 12.
The project will build five brand new stations and see a new station at Broadway-City Hall. The five new stations will be (from west to east) Arbutus, South Granville, Oak-VGH, Mount Pleasant and Great Northern Way-Emily Carr. The new line will connect to VCC-Clark as well.
"The project team is asking for input on the above-ground station features, including entrances, the adjacent plazas and other street-level aspects of the stations, as part of the station’s design advisory process, developed in collaboration with the City of Vancouver," states the province in the release.
A design open house held in fall 2020 helped designers update the plans once, already.
"Input from this second online open house will be considered in finalizing the station’s street-level designs," reads the statement.
Major construction is expected this spring as the tunnelling is expected to start next year, with above-ground construction (aka the stations) beginning in 2023. Track should be laid in 2024 and trains should start running in 2025.
