It appears the latest attempt to get the legendary Railway Club has come to a grinding halt.
Several legal notices have been posted on the exterior of the music venue and bar at 579 Dunsmuir St., announcing the seizure of property and retaking of the leased premises.
The notices explain the most recent operators of the club defaulted on their rent; it names a numbered corporation along with two individuals, including Tiberius "Tabs" Baker. Papia Holdings, the owner of the property, posted the notices through a private bailiff firm at the club's front door.
They claim more than $96,000 is owed, in addition to other expenses.
The notices, which were posted throughout June, explain that if the money claimed isn't paid by July 14 then goods now in the possession of Papia Holdings will be put up for sale.
On social media the club announced on June 9 that "due to unforeseen circumstances, all shows at the Railway this weekend are cancelled."
It appears it was the last post made by the club's operators, though another post that day announced the intentions for a July 1 "Lvndbvck Fest."
That show and another, advertised for the Railway Club on June 23, were moved to the Astoria.
It's the most recent chapter in the Railway Club saga, which has seen the live music and bar venue stop and start a couple of times in the last few years. The Railway ran continuously for 84 years, opening in 1931 and shutting down in 2016; during that span it hosted the likes of Radiohead and the Tragically Hip.
More recently, the Donnelly Group took it over in 2017, but had to close it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The venue reopened again briefly at the end of 2022 and early 2023 before Baker and his group took it over in February.
