While gender reveal parties are all about expectations, a host of a recent party downtown probably wasn't expecting a $2,300 ticket.
Around 8:15 p.m. Saturday night the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) responded to reports of a party in an apartment near Robson and Hamilton streets in downtown Vancouver.
Inside they found a 17-person baby gender reveal party.
The event was shut down and police have ticketed the host $2,300 for holding the gathering.
"It shows terrible judgement and consideration for the community," said VPD Sgt. Steve Addison in an e-mailed statement. "Everyone knows the rules by now, and while we appreciate these folks wanted to share a momentous occasion with friends, there are more responsible ways to do it."
He added it was a beautiful day Saturday and suggested they could have held the party outside.
