A Coquitlam man thought he only won $15 after checking his most recent lottery ticket.
And while that would cover a day's worth of trolley money, Mohammad Golchehreh's winnings are more than enough to actually get him to England for the chance to visit family.
He claimed $500,000 by correctly guessing all four Extra numbers from Lotto 6/49's nation-wide draw last Wednesday (July 20).
Golchehreh explains he was at home when he learned of his new earnings, used his smartphone to check the numbers and immediately went into shock.
"I checked it again and it said $500,000 and I was still in disbelief," he says in a release today (July 25) from the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC).
"Winning is life changing. There’s less to worry about and I’m able to help my family."
Golchehreh is now planning a trip to London to see his brother, and also intends to provide some of the cash to his children to help cover important costs.
The Tri-Cities resident bought his ticket in Burnaby at the Save-On-Foods' location near the intersection of Market Crossing and Marine Way.
His numbers from July 20 were:
- 13, 59, 79 and 84
Nobody won the near $8-million jackpot from the same draw.
BCLC says more than $83 million has been redeemed in 2022 thus far from Lotto 6/49, in which a winner is announced every Wednesday and Saturday night.
