A young man with what authorities are calling "gang connections" was arrested recently during the course of a traffic stop in Surrey.
Surrey RCMP says officers with the Surrey Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) conducted a traffic stop on June 29 at 10:20 p.m. in the area of the 6500 block of 152 Street.
The vehicle in question was a rental. Officers said they noted "signs of alcohol impairment" during their ensuing interaction with the driver, according to a Surrey RCMP media release.
Officers placed the driver, a 21-year-old Surrey man, under arrest.
During a search of the rental vehicle, SGET officers found a loaded handgun, gloves, and an empty jerrycan.
The driver was issued several tickets, including for not having a driver's licence and failure to provide the name and address of the vehicle's registered owner.
The vehicle was seized and returned to the rental company, say authorities. The driver was released from custody.
Surrey RCMP says their investigation into the weapon found during the vehicle search, however, they believe the gun was made with components created by a 3D printer.
