Police are seeking a man suspected of starting a fire in the middle of the day last week in central Surrey.

A fire was put out at a building in the 13900-block of 100 Avenue around 12:45 p.m. on June 5 by Surrey firefighters before it could cause serious damage, but the cause of it is under investigation.

"It is clear that the fire was deliberately set, however the motive is unknown," state police.

Police are investigating and images of a man believed to be a suspect have been shared with the public. Police are now asking for people to try to identify him.

"The suspect is described as a Caucasian male wearing a grey hoodie, green shirt underneath, grey shorts, black shoes with low cut socks and carrying a dark backpack on his back," they state.

He was seen running from the scene, police added.
