On Tuesday, Richmond Mounties made use of their RCMP golf cart to conduct an enforcement blitz along Steveston Highway between No. 5 Road and the Highway 99 entrance ramp.
The RCMP’s Road Safety Unit operation resulted in 22 violation tickets being issued over a two hour period to drivers who ignored the “Right Turn Buses Only” sign from the northbound lane of No. 5 Road at Steveston Highway. Drivers entering the Highway 99 southbound on-ramp from the HOV lane of Steveston Highway were also targeted.

"22 drivers received $121 tickets because they chose to disobey the rules and cut in front of the hundreds of others who followed the rules and patiently waited their turn. Respect and courtesy to other road users is an integral part of road safety," said Sgt. Nigel Pronger, NCO i/c of the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit in an emailed statement.
While the RSU monitors the area regularly, this may have been the most tickets issued for specific violations in the area. RCMP said some passing drivers even complimented the enforcement blitz.
The golf cart was used to navigate between No. 5 Road to the entrance ramp along the sidewalk in order to avoid congestion and pull drivers over safely.
