Police say two men have been taken to hospital with apparent knife wounds after an altercation while they were winter camping together on a mountain north of Vancouver.
North Vancouver RCMP say emergency responders were called to Mount Seymour shortly after 5 a.m. on Thursday after receiving reports of an injured hiker or camper near a snowshoe trail.
Emergency services found the man about 1,000 metres from the ski hill's parking lot on the mountain.
At 8:30 a.m., police received a second call from a man in the same area saying he was injured and required medical help.
RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong said police were surprised when the second call came in and they immediately stepped up their investigation. He said police found the other man in the same general area as the first man.
"We had two 911 calls, both from individuals who sustained injuries of apparent knife wounds."
Police said an emergency response team was sent in to contain and search the area. One media report showed heavily armed police officers on the mountain, some wearing snowshoes.
De Jong said both men, who are in their 30s, are from the Lower Mainland.
He said there was no concern for public safety and they aren't looking for any suspects.
"Our investigation at this point leads us to believe these two individuals were together last night, camping, in whatever capacity we don't know. Something happened with an altercation and both of them were injured."
The main access road to Mount Seymour, where there is a popular ski hill, was closed for a large part of Thursday morning.
Mount Seymour is a 3,500 hectare provincial park about 45 minutes from downtown Vancouver.
