New 16-storey tower pitched for downtown Vancouver

It'll be part of the Bentall Centre

A new building is being proposed as part of the Bentall Centre in downtown Vancouver.

If approved the building will replace the Thurlow Parkade at the intersection of Thurlow and Eveleigh streets -even though its address will be 1025 Dunsmuir St. While part of the Bentall Centre, it won't quite measure up to the two existing towers already there. A 16-storey tower is proposed, with a one-storey pavilion. In total it'll hit around 260 feet.

"1025 Dunsmuir is envisioned as a modern, loftlike structure with strong emphasis on lightfilled, healthy, biophilic environments, renewable resources, and minimized carbon footprints across all disciplines," states the proponent, Hudson Pacific Properties, in an application with the city.

It's planned to have retail on two levels with office space the rest of the way up. There will be a net loss for parking downtown, as the parkade has around 475 spaces, while the new building will have two levels of underground parking with 173 spots for vehicles and 273 for bikes.

The city is currently receiving feedback on the project, until Jan. 7. The decision on whether to allow it lies with the city's Director of Planning, as the land is zoned for this use.
