It's replacing Bed, Bath and Beyond in more than one way.

Rooms + Space will be opening one of its first locations in a space on Vancouver's West Broadway recently vacated by Bed, Bath and Beyond.

As Canadians send Bed, Bath and Beyond into the great beyond, a new retail brand will be filling some of its vacated spaces.

Rooms and Spaces will be opening in 21 of the newly empty stores left by the retailer, including the home goods brand's location at 1740 W Broadway in Vancouver's Fairview/Kitsilano border zone. The brand's website says the store will be opening this summer, though a specific date was not indicated.

The store is one of 54 across Canada that Bed, Bath, and Beyond is moving out of due to bankruptcy. The brand is leaving Canada altogether, along with Buybuy Baby, an associated children's store which had 11 locations.

Metro Vancouver will see one other Rooms and Spaces store open up in Langley. Two other B.C. locations are coming as well, in Victoria and Kelowna. It's unclear how many staff will be hired at the Vancouver store, but the company has stated 500 people are being hired across Canada right now.

In a press release, Rooms and Spaces (branded as rooms + spaces) promises goods for bedrooms, bathrooms and beyond.

"The stores will carry a broad range of products for every room in the home," states the release. "From essentials such as kitchen gadgets and luxurious towels to unique items like bed wedges, cherry pitters, and charcuterie sets, the stores will have everything needed to transform a space."

The new brand is from Doug Putman, who has a history of trying to revive brands and retail spaces, like Toys"R"Us and Sunrise Records in Canada. It's going to be led by the former general manager of Bed, Bath and Beyond Canada, Greg Dyer.

At the same time, 10 other locations being vacated by Bed, Bath and Beyond are being taken over by Canadian Tire to be used for its Mark's and Pro Hockey Life brands. That includes one store in Langley that will become a Mark's.
