Minecraft is arguably the biggest video game of all time, and a Vancouver gaming studio is launching a new title under the brand later this month.
Blackbird Interactive is the team behind Minecraft Legends, a new multiplatform game set for an April 18 release.
"This exciting new action strategy game allows players to explore a gentle land of rich resources and lush biomes on the brink of destruction, gather allies, and lead them in strategic battles to save the Overworld from the ravenous piglins!" states Blackbird's website.
In trailers for the game, the piglin characters can be seen causing havoc in the game's Overworld, while the hero appears to work with all sorts of woodland creatures to defeat them. Write-ups for the game promise epic battles, a multiplayer experience, and vivid gameplay.
The team worked with Mojang Studios, which developed the original game. The new game is described as a strategy spinoff of the popular sandbox-style of Minecraft. It's expected to run around $50 when released.
Blackbird has recently received media attention for its four-day workweek, which it tried out for a period before permanently implementing it.
"I don't think we could have got to where we are today without it," says Jessica Klyne, a producer with the company, in a press release.
As they developed the game they posted videos of the game as it was developed, along with trailers teasing the forthcoming game.
