The Pacific National Exhibition announces that it will host a Canada Day celebration on July 1 - albeit a rather unconventional one.
Earlier today, the PNE stated that Playland will reopen on July 10 through a phased in approach, and that the last weeks of August will include a PNE Fair experience.
On Canada Day, the PNE says it will host Canada's first drive-thru Canada Day celebration. In order to adhere to COVID-19 physical distancing measures, the 'reverse parade' will have guests drive along the parade route. They are encouraged to decorate their vehicles in a Canadian theme and dress in their favourite red and white attire and wave the flag with pride.
In a release, the PNE states that the experience will celebrate 'everything Canada' with live performers, logger sports, and a celebration of Canada’s national sport of hockey along the route. After that, attendees are encouraged to stop at food trucks to pick up some favourite Fair food including: corn dogs, hot dogs, poutine, cotton candy, and lemonade.
The PNE asks that you limit your vehicle to only the people in your social distancing circle. Food must be taken to go and cannot be eaten on site.
The experience is $10 per car, regardless of number of passengers plus the cost of any food purchased. Tickets must be purchased online for a specific time slot, and are not available for sale on site. Limited tickets are available per time slot per day.
