Vancouver Police say they received a report on Saturday afternoon of a "distraught" woman walking out into the waters of Burrard Inlet from the beach at Crab Park.

Vancouver Police say they received a report on Saturday afternoon of a "distraught" woman walking out into the waters of Burrard Inlet from the beach at Crab Park.

Officers arrived on scene and were concerned for the immediate well-being of the woman in her 30s, said Constable Jason Doucette.

He said four officers swam towards the woman, who was floating about 50 feet from shore and worked as a team to get her back to the shoreline without anyone involved being injured.

Police Chief Constable Adam Palmer gave a "heartfelt thank you" to the four officers via Twitter:

Doucette said woman was taken to hospital for medical assessment and the officers were taken back to headquarters to warm-up.
