The Henley Passport Index has released its July 2020 ranking of the world's most powerful passports and Canada ranked among the strongest.
Each quarter, the Henley Passport Index presents its ranking of passports according to the number of countries their holders can enter without the bother of applying for a visa in advance. The renowned London-based consultancy, which helps governments develop citizenship-by-investment programs, bases the ranking on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and additional in-house research.
The Index notes that, "EU released a list of countries whose residents would be allowed entry into the bloc from July 1 based on coronavirus-related health and safety criteria. Included on the welcome list are countries such as Australia, Canada, Japan, and South Korea that traditionally score highly on the Henley Passport Index. However, in a move perceived as a stinging rebuke for its poor handling of the pandemic, the US was notably excluded from the list, as were Brazil and Russia."
This quarter, the Japanese passport has once again been confirmed as the world's best travel document, offering Visa-free access to 191 destinations worldwide. Singapore came second, allowing travelers Visa-free access to 190 countries. South Korea is third, alongside Germany, with both documents giving access to 189 countries.
Italy, Finland, Spain, and Luxembourg tied for fourth, with each country's travel document offering Visa-free access to 188 countries worldwide. Denmark and Austria tied for fifth, with access to 187 countries through their respective travel documents.
