There may still be fewer cars on the road due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but drivers should note that the Surrey RCMP Traffic Unit is still active on the city's streets.
In a tweet, Surrey RCMP state that their traffic unit was conducting speed enforcement along Highway 17 when they clocked a Lamborghini travelling 135 km/h in an 80 zone.
"Beautiful car for sure, but it looks decidedly less cool on the back of the tow truck en route to the impound lot," quipped the Surrey RCMP.
The Motor Vehicle Act defines excessive speeding as going over 40 km/hr above the speed limit. Doing so comes with a hefty $483 fine in addition to a seven day vehicle impound.
Another day, another vehicle impound for excessive speeding along Highway 17. This lambo was clocked doing 135 km in an 80 km/h zone; beautiful car for sure, but it looks decidedly less cool on the back of the tow truck en route to the impound lot. #NoNeedForSpeed pic.twitter.com/m8JZlhl6kh

Last month, a driver in Oak Bay crashed a vehicle into a tree in the wee hours of Thursday morning, and the car had some rather unfortunate bumper stickers.
One of the bumper stickers reads, "Street racing is not a crime. Well it is but [expletive] it," and the other says, "Yes officer I did see the speed limit sign (I just didn't see you)."
On Twitter, Oak Bay Police report that an "N" driver with three passengers crashed into the tree at 12:45 a.m. on Beach Drive.
Leadfoots beware: 35 intersections in B.C. are now equipped automatic speed ticketing cameras, 24/7.
In May 2019, the Government of British Columbia announced that it was cracking down on dangerous driving with a new automatic ticketing system in the summer. However, the system was slowly rolled out over time, with the first five activated in July 2019.
Since B.C. activated its first five automated speed enforcement cameras at the end of July 2019, the government notes that the program has issued more than 20,000 speeding tickets. According to a release, "The fastest ticketed vehicle clocked 174 km/h at a location where the posted speed limit is 80 km/h."
Now, Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, has confirmed that automated speed enforcement equipment is now in place at all 35 planned Intersection Safety Camera (ISC) program sites and operating at 34 of them, on a 24/7 basis. Have a look at an interactive map of where they are located.
