A giant chunk of concrete wasteland will soon be transformed into TransLink's electric bus hub.
The Marpole Transit Centre (MTC) is proposed for the massive parcel of land south of the intersection of Heather Street and Kent Avenue. Costing in the neighbourhood of $340 million, the massive project will see six new buildings built on the property to accommodate 315 buses, including the incoming electric vehicles.
"The MTC facility will be a running repair facility for the administration, dispatch and maintenance of buses and bus operations," states a study on the proposal released by TransLink.
It'll have refuelling stations both for electric and diesel buses, as well.
While near the Vancouver Transit Centre, which is located at the northern end of the Arthur Laing Bridge, the MTC will be a separate facility next to the Canada Line bridge.
TransLink documents show the facility should be finished in 2026 or 2027.
