The Vancouver Fire Rescue Service (VFRS) was quick to respond to a call Monday morning at Science World.
Firefighters were called to the iconic building around 8:45 a.m. on March 11 after smoke was spotted.
When they arrived, they found a small fire underneath the walkway next to Science World over False Creek.
Firefighters have gotten to the fire and it's being held says VFRS spokesperson Matthew Trudeau, but it's not quite fully out.
"We believe we've got the problem isolated and [are] working on final extinguishment," he tells V.I.A.
VFRS was able to determine it was an electrical fire; underneath the walkway and above False Creek there are some electrical components.
"It is an odd spot," Trudeau says, noting crews have an inflatable boat and about six feet of vertical space during high tide.
"It's kind of right below where the building is, underneath the walkway area," he says.
Luckily, he adds, there appears to be minimal damage to Science World at most.
"It's hard to determine," he adds.
Science World has announced it will be closed for the day "due to unforeseen circumstances."
Trudeau says VFRS will make sure the iconic building is okay before leaving the scene.
"We're making sure everything is contained and Science World is taken care of," he says.
