Two men have been charged with second degree murder after a man died in a Surrey hospital Aug. 24, days after being attacked.
The incident occurred in the Whalley area of Surrey just before 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 18. Police had received reports of a man wandering a parking lot on King George Boulevard carrying a machete.
"While on route, police were updated that the man allegedly struck a vehicle with the machete and an altercation ensued with the two occupants of the vehicle," stated the Surrey RCMP in a press release on Aug. 23.
That altercation led to the death of the man with the machete, and the two people in the vehicle are now facing charges.
Police arrived and found the 55-year-old man with life-threatening injuries; he was taken to a nearby hospital. In an Aug. 24 release police state the man has died of his injuries.
The two men who were in the vehicle, 31-year-old Parminder Singh Brar and 21-year-old Simarpal Singh, were initially charged with aggravated assault. After the death of the victim police charged the pair with second-degree murder. Both men are in custody.
The name of the victim is not being released at this time, Surrey RCMP has told V.I.A., nor are details regarding the case as it's now before the courts.
