A self-proclaimed "chocoholic" gave Metro Vancouver Transit Police quite a scare this week.
Police officers are used to people frantically telling them information, although it is typically regarding a crisis situation.
But two Metro Vancouver Transit Police officers were relieved to find out that a local woman's frantic waves were due to a big win.
Transit Police spokesperson Sgt. Clint Hampton tells Vancouver Is Awesome that he was doing patrols with Cst. Mike Yake in Surrey Thursday (Aug. 19) morning in the area of Scott Road Station. As they pulled into the north side of the station a woman was frantically waving her arms to get their attention.
"Most of the time when people want our attention it is in a moment of crisis," he explains. "Experience says something’s wrong and naturally you have a physiological response — increased heart rate, etc.
"Unknowingly your bodies preparing for whatever you may have to deal with."
As the officers got closer to the woman Hampton notes that her "smile told a different story."
The woman then told the officers that she was a "self-proclaimed chocoholic" and had just won $2,200 in prizes including a new TV and gaming system from a candy-bar contest, describes Hampton.
"The three of us had a good laugh, we were happy to share in the excitement of her prize."
