Vancouver's haunted choo-choo train won't be chugging down the tracks this spooky season.
Just several weeks ago, the Ghost Train was getting ready to take visitors into Atomicville.
But an unfortunate update issued Sept. 20 indicates the train is cancelled this year "due to mechanical issues affecting the antique engines and passenger cars."
"Safety is the number one priority for the Park Board and the trains did not pass a recent inspection by Technical Safety BC," writes the update.
The train engines, some of which are over 60 years old, require "unique and hard-to-access parts" as well as specialized service and maintenance, which are both in short supply. Mechanics who are knowledgeable in the maintenance of this kind of vintage equipment are also scarce.
Though the Halloween event is cancelled, operators are aiming to have the mechanical issues resolved before the winter holiday event, Bright Nights.
Those who were hoping for a ride on the spooky train can check out VanDusen Garden's Harvest Days which will transform the garden and maze with fall-themed festivities.
