York House School has had a potential COVID-19 exposure.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is reporting potential coronavirus exposure events at two independent schools in the city.

Each event was only a single day. On Friday, Oct. 29, a potential exposure event occurred at Immaculate Conception School at 3754 West 28 Ave. in Dunbar.

The second was the same day, Oct. 29, at York House Little School at 4176 Alexandra St. in Arbutus Ridge.

Prior to this five other exposure events have been reported at Vancouver's public schools. These are the first two such events reported at independent schools in Vancouver since the beginning of the 2021-22 school year.

VCH issues such alerts when they believe there is "an increased risk of ongoing transmission of COVID-19 to groups" that the infected individual was a part of. That includes classes. They don't specify if the person was a student, staff member, or someone else.

More incidents of COVID-19 may have been detected in school communities, but an alert isn't issued if it's determined there was no increased risk of that infection spreading.

"If you have not been directly contacted by Public Health, please keep your student in class," states VCH online. "Children and youth continue to be at low risk for serious outcomes from COVID-19, but research has shown missing school impacts mental health, social connection and learning outcomes."
