Vancouver's first homicide in 2024 has happened according to police.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is investigating the death of a man in a home in the Kensington-Cedar Cottage nieghbourhood, according to a press release.

"Officers were called to a home near East 33rd Avenue and Knight Street just after 1 a.m. today," they state in the Jan. 28 release. "A man was found deceased inside the home."

However, who he is and how exactly he died is still under investigation.

"The victim’s identity is unknown," states the release.

The manner of the victim's death hasn't been confirmed either.

"We don’t know exactly yet how he died. That remains under investigation," Const. Tania Visintin tells Vancouver Is Awesome in an email.

That said, a 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and police do not believe there is any risk to the public right now related to the incident.

The identification of the man who has been arrested has not been released, and whether he was a resident of the home or was previously known to police is still under investigation.

"When we have more info to provide, we’ll make that available," writes Visintin.
