We may have survived the snowpocalypse of Super Bowl Sunday here in Metro Vancouver, but flurries remain in the forecast for Monday and a couple of days later this week, and the region takes a blast of unseasonably cold wintry weather.

Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement early Monday morning for all of Metro Vancouver thanks to "an Arctic ridge of high pressure over the BC interior" that is sending frigid winds across the Fraser Valley and westward into the Metro region.
We can expect cold and blustery outflow winds Monday, along with lingering flurries and below-zero temps.

Temperatures will gradually rise over the next few days, but will remain below seasonal normals through midweek. Also, winds will slowly ease tonight and Tuesday, notes Canada's weather agency.
In response to the snow and cold, TransLink is advising riders dress appropriately (in case they're left standing outside waiting for delayed buses or SkyTrains). The transit agency says they are continuing to put down salt and sand at bus loops and SkyTrain stations.

Additionally, the City of Vancouver has indicated they will open more shelter beds for those who need to seek refuge from the cold, particularly the unusually low overnight temps early this week.
