Vancouver police are investigating a collision that claimed the life of a 64-year-old man.

Ambulances responded to a call at 8:21 a.m., Sept. 27, after receiving reports of a person trapped between two transit buses on West Cordova Street near Cambie Street, according to BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).

The man was pinned between two transit vehicles as he was dealing with a mechanical issue on his bus, explains a VPD news release. The victim was taken to hospital by paramedics for life-threatening injures where he later died.

The man was an employee of Coast Mountain Bus Company (CMBC) and TransLink stated in a Tweet that it would hold a moment of silence on Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. in his honour.

"Buses will pull over, if it's safe to do so, and the SeaBus will hold at the terminal to remember our colleague and thank them for their 21 years of dedication and service to our community," said the transportation agency.

“The circumstances of this fatality are heartbreaking,” says Constable Tania Visintin. “VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit is working closely with Coast Mountain Bus Company and Worksafe BC to determine the cause of this collision.”

Witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage is asked to call VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012

This is Vancouver’s 13th fatal collision of 2021.
