Fire under Georgia Viaduct Vancouver
The Vancouver Fire Department responded to reports of an explosion under an on-ramp to the Georgia Viaduct along Union Street near The Plaza Skateboard Park.

Fire, smoke, and explosions could be seen coming from under a section of the Georgia Viaduct last night.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Feb. 10, members of the Vancouver Fire Department responded to reports of an explosion emanating from under an on-ramp to the Georgia Viaduct along Union Street near the Plaza Skateboard Park. Kane Morishita, the on-duty Assistant Chief said the scene looked like the remnants of a fenced-off homeless encampment.

While crews found no evidence of explosions, two videos taken from different vantage points recorded a distinct "boom" and a flash of flame.

"That's not to say the fire investigators after didn't it didn't find out we know one-pound propane bottle or something that dented," Morishita said in a recent interview.

The Vancouver Police Department later confirmed the fire started around 10 p.m. and caused a propane tank to explode. No one was injured and no damage was dealt to city property. The file remains under investigation.
