Locals might want to carry an umbrella with them at all times this week...and possibly a snorkel on the weekend.
Following a significantly wet Easter long weekend, the upcoming Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes plenty of precipitation and possibly strong winds.
Environment Canada meteorologist Derrick Lee said locals should brace for an extended stretch of wet weather through the weekend and heading into next week. However, there won't be another intense rain event until the weekend.
"We are in a rather wet pattern for the next 10 days or so," he told V.I.A. in an interview Tuesday (April 11), adding that there will be a "more organized rain storm" over the weekend that will produce more continuous precipitation.
The weekend's rainstorm will be more of a "typical rainstorm" and won't produce as much precipitation as there was on Easter. It produced a whopping 40 mm of rainfall and the average total for April is about 90 mm, Lee noted.
Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes heavy rainfall
The heavy rainfall is expected to commence early Saturday morning, continue through the night and into Sunday, and bring the chance for some strong winds gusting off the ocean. And while the meteorologist expects the wet weather to persist through Monday and Tuesday, it is unclear what locals will see through the remainder of the week.
When asked if there could be a "parade of storms" in the coming days, Lee explained that clusters of significant rain events tend to happen more in the fall.
Instead, the weekend storm is expected to bring "warmer air" into the region, which could raise daytime highs next week. That said, temperatures have been hitting close to normal averages, with highs around 14 C and lows of about 5 C expected later this week.
The near-normal temperature trend is expected to continue through the end of the month and into May.
