Paramedics had to take shelter Sunday night after a man opened fire on them with a pellet gun.
The incident happened Sunday, Jan. 8, around 11 p.m. while the paramedics were working behind the Carnegie Centre on East Hastings Street.
"Someone began firing from above, striking the first responders and their ambulance," state the VPD in a press release. "The paramedics took shelter and notified Vancouver Police, who were also struck with pellets as they arrived on scene."
One officer was shot several times and sustained minor injuries.
The Vancouver Police Emergency Response Team were called in and searched the Maple Hotel where they arrested a 45-year-old suspect.
He was on bail for an unrelated assault, according to police and wanted for theft. He's now facing new charges related to the pellet gun shooting including assaulting paramedics and police, possession of a weapon and breaching bail conditions.
