Vancouverites love their historic buildings.
While tourists or people familiar with the city from TV shows of movies might pic Canada Place or Science World as the most iconic building in Vancouver, locals in a poll this month picked one of the city's oldest towering downtown buildings as the most iconic: The Marine Building.
With almost a third of the votes going to the Marine Building, it was a solid win for the detailed Art Deco masterpiece built in 1929 and 30. It may not be the most famous building in Vancouver, but it certainly has its fans, and has been a central piece of the city's core for nearly a century.
And with its detailed design, it's not only an iconic part of the cityscape but also interesting up close.
Second and third place essentially tied, with Canada Place, built for Expo 86, sailing in with 18 per cent of the vote, whether its locals or everyone that was asked. Hotel Vancouver scored poorer with locals than with out-of-towners.
While it's the third edition, the current Hotel Vancouver is pretty much the same age as the Marine Building (though it was finished a bit later).
Science World was just behind in fourth place with 15 per cent of the vote.
At the top of the bottom three was the downtown library with just under 10 per cent of the vote. While some people did find BC Place and the Harbour Centre (the tower with the revolving restaurant) iconic, it was only around three or four per cent.
