Some ski resorts around Metro Vancouver have closed for Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, due to weather conditions.

Despite the inches of snow seen in Metro Vancouver over the past week, some local ski resorts are closing the slopes.

A rainfall warning issued Friday (Dec. 23) calls for heavy rainfall across the region, making localized flooding possible in low-lying areas, while higher elevations may see "winter conditions." There may also be some slippery surfaces before the ice and snow melt completely.

Which Metro Vancouver ski resorts are closed on Dec. 24?

Of the five ski resorts in the Lower Mainland, two are closed on Christmas Eve.

Grouse Mountain and Seymour Mountain both announced that due to inclement weather and "high winds and heavy rain in the forecast" mountaintop activities will be closed until Christmas Day (Dec. 25).

Other ski resorts, however, remain open.

Whistler Blackcomb reported an additional 15 cm of fresh snow Saturday (Dec. 24) morning, with almost half of the terrain open and 18 out of 27 lifts open as well.

Cypress Mountain Resort is also open but has closed off all chair lefts except Lions Express and Easy Rider. The ski resort closes at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Sasquatch Mountain Resort reports no additional snowfall, but the ski resort's live web camera forecasts winds and snow. The ski resort is also closed over Christmas weekend.
