The Hollywood Theatre has been continuously owned and operated in Kitsilano by the Fairleigh family since 1935. As near as I can tell it's the oldest (and possibly largest, with 651 seats) theatre of its kind in Vancouver, and the second oldest in BC. That it's still in the same family has to make it something of an anomaly in Canada, and if you know of one older please leave a comment.

Seeing a movie there is like going back in time. The theatre is so elegant and beautiful and it takes my breath away every time I walk in. I get a little thrill, it's quite the experience. The Hollywood has been featured in movies like Look Who's Talking and was even in the Payola$ video for Eyes of a Stranger. As a side note, inside sources tell me that the lady in the video with the stranger eyes (as opposed to Hungry Eyes or Bette Davis') was a member of Vancouver punk rock pioneers The Dishrags.
Besides, can you think of somewhere better to catch two movies for $7? I didn't think so.
