The car share movement is charging full steam ahead, and Vancouver is at the forefront of the revolution. While owning a car used to represent the ultimate in freedom and independence, an increasing number of consumers now view ownership as a costly burden.
And why shouldn’t they? Car sharing represents a far more cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to get around, and is often considered a gateway to other forms of collaborative consumption. It means fewer vehicles on the road and lower emissions. Plus, let’s be honest – it’s pretty convenient to be able to drop off a vehicle (almost) wherever it suits you.
Evo is a proponent of this new kind of thinking, where access trumps ownership. The car share company - which offers a fleet of vehicles “tailored to the BC lifestyle” - recently expanded the boundaries of their Home Zone, the area designated for pickup and parking of their cars.
The latest Evo expansion will include a portion of North Vancouver, where the Home Zone will stretch from Ridgeway Avenue to Jones Avenue from East to West, and from 24th St to Lonsdale Quay from North to South. You can check out the zone boundaries as outlined on this map.
Some more good news: There will also be additional parking for those who make the commute to and from Burnaby, for work or for school. This is actually the first time one-way car share services will be available in Metrotown and at SFU Burnaby, so it’s worth getting jazzed about.
Schools like BCIT and Capilano University (who already have car sharing on campus) will see increased usage, as Evo will be introduced there as well.
As of June 1st, parking will be available (in specified Evo lots) in Metrotown, the SFU Burnaby campus, the BCIT Burnaby campus and at Capilano University. Students and shoppers alike will rejoice, and sing the praises of the one-way car share. Do you know how difficult it can be to find a parking spot around Metrotown? What about if you’re running late for class and need a guaranteed parking spot ASAP?
To celebrate these Home Zone expansions, Evo is offering 30 minutes of free driving time to new Members. You can sign up on their website to become a Member and take advantage of the limited time offer.
They’ll also be taking over the Shipyards Night Market in North Van on Saturday, June 4th and offering special bonus offers for new and existing Evo Members. Attendees can partake in a minute grab madness, as well as enter to win a shopping spree at Arc'teryx.
