The power of art is undeniable.
Art can inspire, bring people together, and shine a light on the beauty of the world around us.
Fortunately for us, that light will be shining brighter than ever during the Lumière Festival, taking place from November 7–10 at various locations throughout downtown Vancouver.
Founded in 2014, the Lumière Festival is run by a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming winter through light, art, music, and dance. Following the success of its 10th anniversary last year—which attracted 70,000 attendees who enjoyed installations and performances by 116 multidisciplinary artists—Lumière 2024 promises to return bigger and brighter than ever before.
For those who have never experienced the festival, here’s what you need to know: each public space will feature a different art installation or performance, with each piece utilizing the power of light in its own unique way. The work on display has an uplifting quality, quite literally beaming positivity and optimism during Vancouver’s dreariest season, offering a welcome respite after weeks (if not months) of rain.

Building on last year's momentum, Lumière Festival 2024 will showcase 30+ awe-inspiring light-based artworks and projections in Vancouver’s downtown core. Curated by local writer, director, and artist Ana Valine, this year’s festival will also feature a vibrant mix of international artists from France, Poland, and the U.S., alongside installations by Canadians and local talent alike.
This year’s Lumière Festival will also include a diverse array of live performances, including international performers and Indigenous multigenerational dance groups spread across more than 13 locations throughout downtown Vancouver, including the West End, Yaletown and Gastown neighbourhoods.
The 2024 Lumière Festival will showcase installations across some of Vancouver's most iconic locations, including:

- Vancouver Art Gallery (On šxʷƛ̓ ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square: North Plaza)
- Lot 19 (855 West Hastings Street)
- Gastown Gateway (356 Water Street)
- Helmcken Plaza (338 Helmcken Street)
- Bill Curtis Square (1198 Mainland Street)
- Jim Deva Plaza (1200 Bute Street)
- Morton Park / 1800 Davie Plaza (1800 Davie Street)
- West End Community Centre
- Robson Street (1087-1091 Robson Street)
In addition, Lumière Festival will also feature Parasol at Bentall Centre, Canopy at the VAG South Plaza and Dichroic Vancouver at 980 Howe Street (Manulife tower).
Lumière aims to transform the city’s urban landscape into a radiant canvas of light, marking November as the start of a season dedicated to inspiration and connection. Lumière is free and accessible for all, aiming to bring communities together through art and light.
