Locals can take advantage of numerous cheap flights from Vancouver across B.C. and Canada as interest in transborder travel wanes.
Flair Airlines and WestJet offer the best deals from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) in the spring of 2025, although some third-party travel companies may provide a lower price than booking the flights directly through the airlines.
Have a look at some direct flight options under $60 that are departing soon.
Edmonton
Travellers can score one-way tickets to Edmonton for as little as $40 one-way, direct from Vancouver via Flair Airlines or only slightly higher ($49) with WestJet (see slides two).
This low price point isn't designated to specific travel dates, either. While some days of the week may be slightly more expensive based on availability, customers can browse options at this price from May through the end of August. Prices only begin to climb heading into September, meaning it is ideal to book trips within three months of departure (unlike many long-haul flights).

While this price may seem very low, it is considered "typical" for economy, according to Google Flights.
Hot tip: If you live closer to Abbotsford, tickets to Edmonton from Flair Airlines cost a jaw-dropping $23 on select dates this May. You can also take transit out to the airport, but using another form of transportation, such as a shuttle bus or taxi from Downtown Vancouver, likely isn't worth the savings on the flight (these options generally will work out to more than the difference) (see slide three).
Also, ly.com is selling a WestJet flight for only $15 on May 7, but you may want to consider the risks involved in booking through a third-party without a North American office. For example, if something goes wrong with your booking or flight plans, it may be difficult to speak with a representative.
Winnipeg
Flights from Vancouver to Winnipeg are a steal if you aren't glued to specific travel dates. Flights departing on May 3 or May 22 cost as little as $55 this spring (see slide four).
Unfortunately, this price is considered "low" for economy or $104 cheaper than usual. They also aren't expected to drop any lower, according to Google Flights.
Kelowna
Prices to Kelowna are lower than usual in June, with the cheapest flights costing roughly $45 less than normal, according to Google Flights. Unfortunately, they jump back up heading into summer (see slide five).

For example, a direct WestJet flight departing Vancouver on June 11 costs $32 booked through BudgetAir or $45 directly through WestJet (both prices are considered lower than average).
Comox
Folks looking to skip the ferry can pay as little as $28 through a third party to get to the island from Vancouver. Once they arrive in Comox, several destinations are a bus ride away, and they can organize transfers to many of them, too (see slide six).
Tickets booked directly through WestJet cost slightly more at $47.
Prices are lowest in May and June and begin to increase in July.
Calgary
Alberta's biggest city is one of the best deals from Vancouver year-round. Similar to Edmonton, travellers can find the lowest price ($50) through the spring and into early summer.
One-way tickets from Vancouver to Calgary cost $50, which is considered "typical" for economy, according to Google Flights.

Bonus: Waterloo
Travellers heading back east to Ontario can find flights under $60 one-way from the Lower Mainland, provided they don't mind departing from Abbotsford.
Direct, one-way flights from the Fraser Valley airport to Waterloo cost as little as $55 in May with Flair Airlines (see slide seven).
