Canadian airlines are ringing in the Lunar New Year by offering cheap flights from Vancouver and nationwide.
Travellers can score reduced prices on flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to destinations across North America, including popular cities in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Air Canada
Canada's flag carrier is offering two separate sales for travellers to ring in the new year.
The first sale includes 15 per cent off base fares on flights to select destinations within Canada and in the U.S. for travel between Feb. 4 and Oct. 25. It applies to tickets booked in the following economy class fares: Basic, Standard, Flex and Comfort.
The sale applies to numerous Canadian cities and trips between Canada and the following U.S. cities: Washington (IAD), Boston, Chicago, Newark, Tampa, Fort Myers, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Palm Beach, and Palm Springs.
The following blackout dates apply: Feb. 14 and 17; March 7-9; March 14-16, April 17-22; May 15-20; June 26-July 6; July 31-Aug. 5; Aug. 27-Sept. 2; and Oct. 9-14.
Travellers must book trips before Jan. 30 at 11:59 p.m. in the city of departure using the promotional code U3BA8KB1.
Air Canada's second sale doesn't display an exact discount amount but applies to select destinations within Canada, in the U.S., Mexico, and the Caribbean for travel between Jan. 27 and Oct. 25 in economy class.
Travellers must book trips before Jan. 31 at 11:59 p.m. in the city of departure.
WestJet
WestJet is offering a Year of the Snake sale on over 100 destinations for travel between Jan. 27 and Oct. 25 for tickets booked in its UltraBasic, Econo, and Premium classes. There are no blackout dates for this WestJet sale.
Tickets must be booked by Jan. 31 at 10:59 p.m.
The blue-and-green carrier is also offering up to 15 per cent off base fares on flights across Canada and the United States for tickets booked in the UltraBasic and Econo classes.
The sale applies to flights between Feb. 4 and Oct. 25 but some travellers get different discounts depending on when their travel occurs.
- Travellers get 15 per cent off select base fares on travel between Feb. 4 and June 25 or Sept. 3 and Oct. 25.
- Travellers get 10 per cent off select base fares on travel between July 7 and 30 or August 6 and 26.
This offer is valid on WestJet wholly operated flights (no other airline can appear on the ticket) between the following cities and destinations:
- Toronto and Halifax, St. John’s, Moncton, Deer Lake, Montreal
- Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Thunder Bay, Halifax, St. John’s, Quebec City, Moncton, Fredericton, Deer Lake and Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon
- St. John’s, Toronto and Tampa, Orlando
- Ottawa, Toronto and Fort Myers
- Toronto and Las Vegas
- Winnipeg and Fort Lauderdale
- Canada and San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix
The following blackout dates apply to the sale: Feb. 14 and 17; March 7-9; March 14-16; April 17-22; May 15-20; June 26-30; July 1-6, and 31; Aug. 1-5; Aug. 27-31; Sept. 1-2; and Oct. 9-14.
Tickets must be booked by Jan. 30 at 10:59 p.m.
Flair Airlines
Ultra-low-cost carrier Flair Airlines is also offering a Lunar New Year sale, offering 25 per cent off base fares on transborder and international flights.
Low-cost sale flights from YVR include Las Vegas for $91, Palm Springs for $101, San Francisco for $101, and Los Cabos for $136.
Tickets must be booked by midnight on Jan. 30 using the promotional code LUCKY25.
The cheapest offers for domestic flights from YVR include Kelowna for $26, Edmonton for $36, Calgary for $39, and Winnipeg for $51.
Porter
Porter is also taking advantage of the Year of the Snake celebration, offering up to 30 per cent off base fares for flights to and from Vancouver, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Tampa, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, San Diego, Phoenix, Calgary, Edmonton, and Victoria for travel until Oct. 25.
On Basic, Standard and Navigate fares, the following discounts apply to travel from Feb. 3 and June 25:
- 20 per cent discount is applicable on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays
- 15 per cent discount is applicable on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
On Flexible, Freedom and Ultimate fares, the following discounts apply to travel from Feb. 3 to June 25,
- 15 per cent discount is applicable Mondays through Sundays.
On Basic, Standard and Navigate fares, the following discount applies to travel from July 7 to 30:
- 10 per cent discount is applicable on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
- five per cent discount is applicable on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
On Flexible, Freedom and Ultimate fares, the following discounts apply to travel from July 7 to 30.
- five per cent discount applies on Mondays through Sundays.
On Basic, Standard and Navigate fares, the following discounts apply to travel from August 6 to 26:
- five per cent discount is applicable on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
On Basic, Standard and Navigate fares, the following discounts apply to travel from Sept. 3 to Oct. 25:
- 20 per cent discount is applicable on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
- 15 per cent discount is applicable on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays.
On Flexible, Freedom and Ultimate fares, the following discounts apply to travel from Sept. 3 to Oct. 25:
- 10 per cent discount is applicable Mondays through Sundays.
For all other itineraries on Basic, Standard and Navigate fares from Feb. 3 to June 25:
- 30 per cent discount is applicable on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
- 20 per cent discount is applicable on Mondays and Thursdays.
- 15 per cent discount is applicable on Fridays and Sundays.
On Flexible, Freedom and Ultimate fares, the following discounts apply to travel between Feb. 3 and June 25:
- 15 per cent discount is applicable Mondays through Sundays.
The discount is not applicable on the following blackout dates: Feb. 14 and 17; March 7-9; March 14-16; April 17-22; May 15-20; June 26-July 6; July 31 to Aug. 5; Aug. 27-Sept. 2; and Oct. 9 to 14.
