Deal alert: Sail on a luxury cruise from Vancouver to California at a steal

The price includes transportation on a beautiful five-star vessel, meals, entertainment, and more.

One of the lowest-priced cruises from Vancouver takes guests down the Pacific Coast to sunny San Diego this fall.

Holland America Line is offering a cruise toward the end of the season that works out to just over $100 a day and includes a stop in Avalon, California. Guests will also enjoy a couple of days at sea after the ship departs Canada Place on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The ship is the five-star Koningsdam, which offers two swimming pools, a live theatre, a tennis court, renowned spa treatments, movies under the stars, a basketball court, a video arcade, a casino and much more. The "Pinnacle" class ship also allows guests to create their own wine blend from a selection of single vineyard red wines.

Wed., Oct. 23 At Sea
Thur., Oct. 24 At Sea

Cruise from Vancouver to San Diego in October 2024

The price for two people for an interior stateroom is $818.36 or $409.18 per person. This price works out to $101.05 per diem, per person for the four-night sailing (see slide three).

Not only does that cost include your transportation on a beautiful five-star vessel, but it also includes meals, entertainment, snacks, and lodging. The only thing it doesn’t factor in is alcohol, but you may opt to purchase a drink package that can reduce the cost of your spending.

Guests looking to upgrade their stateroom won't pay thousands of dollars. An interior stateroom is advertised for $410, an ocean view is $516, and a verandah (balcony) is $611 (see slide two).

Travellers must also get a flight home from San Diego at the end of the cruise. They can stay in the city for a night or two or fly out the day the cruise arrives. However, they shouldn't book flights that depart too early in the day to allow transit time to get off the ship and go through airport security.

Taking a flight in the evening provides time to get off the ship and make it to the airport several hours before the flight departs.

Flights departing a couple of days after the ship docks start at around $160 with one stop. For example, an option leaving San Diego International Airport (SAN) on Tuesday, Oct. 29 with Alaska Airlines stops in Seattle en route to Vancouver and costs $164 (see slide four).

I sailed on the Koningsdam's first voyage to Vancouver after the pandemic-related cruising restrictions were lifted in 2022. Read my experience sailing from San Diego.
