Hot deal alert: You can fly from Vancouver to Rome, Italy for $343

This price is considered very low for economy.

Travellers can fly from Vancouver to Rome for a steal via some third-party suppliers this April.

People with flexible schedules or looking for sweet deals can take advantage of fares several hundred dollars below seasonal averages, provided they're comfortable not booking directly through the airline.

For instance, WestJet is offering a flight departing Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on Monday, April 14, and returning from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) on Tuesday, April 22, for $1,256. The flight has two stopovers on the outbound journey, including one in Kelowna and one in Calgary, for just a pinch over an hour each. The return trip only has one stop in Calgary for five hours (see slide two).

However, travellers open to booking the same flight through another company can save 50 per cent off the regular price. BudgetAir is offering the flight for $609, and FlightHub has it for $634 (see slide three).

This price is considered "low" for economy, or $245 cheaper than the average on the route, according to Google Flights (see slide four).

Cheap options from YVR to FCO with only one stop

Travellers who prefer to only make one stop on the way to Rome don't have to pay much more.

BudgetAir is also offering a trip on the same dates for $639; the stop on the outbound journey in Calgary is six hours and 16 minutes long the return flight is the same as the first itinerary (Calgary for five hours).

Want to plan your own Euro-trip adventure?

Travellers who want to fly to Rome and then continue through Italy or the rest of the continent may prefer a one-way ticket.

Luckily, one-way tickets from YVR to FCO start at $343 with Flair Airlines and WestJet via a third party, provided you are comfortable with an eight-and-a-half-hour layover in Calgary (see slide five).
