Welcome to the latest series of Super, Neighbours blog posts where we highlight incredible travel destinations in British Columbia! |
BC Ferries was nice enough to get us over there for the trip, and we were afforded a view of the parking spot where the ferry that I usually find myself on sits at Horsheshoe Bay. This is where the Nanaimo ferry arrives and departs from...
The one that we were on was maybe half the size of the big Vancouver Island-bound ships, and the trip over to Gibsons where you land is not only scenic (tug boats and mountains!) but it's quick. Like if you were serious you could live there and commute to Vancouver for work, it's that kind of quick. I'd be lying if I told you I didn't daydream about moving to Gibsons and hopping over to the city for meetings while we were on the ferry. Not only is it the close proximity but also the fact that they keep the real estate newspaper boxes well stocked. Aside from tourism I imagine that real estate is one of the larger industries on the Sunshine Coast.
It's become a staple of my trips on BC Ferries to capture an image of award-winning novel, Adventures In Solitude, written by V.I.A. friend Grant Lawrence, in the gift shop. In fact I usually tweet it from our @VIAwesome account when I do.
Here's the peaceful view of the lines to get onto the return ferry, should you get there early enough you'll be afforded this view.
But we're not hitting the return ferry yet, we're heading to Rockwater Secret Cove Resort and their aforementioned mind blowing luxury tent accommodations. Stay tuned.
