You don’t have to go to Europe to experience some of the best rail journeys in the world, as it turns out the creme de la creme may depart for and start from Vancouver.
A study by Club Med looked at 20 train trips around the world and ranked them according to a mix of their ranking on Instagram and Pinterest as well as their reviews, ticket prices and sights seen along the way. Only two Canadian trips were included and they both made the top five. In fact, one even took the top spot.
The Rocky Mountaineer travelling between Banff and Vancouver took the top honour with a score of 83/100, earning the glorious title “most Instagrammable."
“The Canadian Rockies and the remote vistas of Canada's West is the best train journey for social media,” the study states. “The journey based on the beloved Agatha Christie novel, Venice Simplon-Orient-Express came second with a score of 80.”
The Canadian, which travels between Toronto and Vancouver, placed third with a score of 78/100.
“Unlike planes, when you travel by train you are able to see the ever-changing landscape rolling by,” says Estelle Giraudeau, managing director for Club Med. “However, even though you’ll be able to enjoy the views of the French Alps or the Canadian Rockies from the comfort of your seat. -- before you are due to set off, check with your specific train service for further detail on COVID-19 guidelines and the precautions you need to take.”
