Vancouverites can visit two bucket-list tropical destinations for the price of one this year.
While tickets to the "Land Down Under" typically set travellers back a couple of thousand dollars, Fiji Airways has made flights to the South Pacific significantly more affordable from the Lower Mainland.
Fiji Airways commenced its direct flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Nadi International Airport (NAN) in November 2022, offering locals an affordable and convenient option to the paradisaical destination.
But the recently-introduced option also provides locals with cheaper airfare to Australia, New Zealand, and more.
Right now, travellers can take advantage of round-trip flights from YVR to Sydney Airport (SYD) for as little as $1,149 including all taxes and fees with only one three-hour layover in Nadi in either direction.
The least expensive round-trip flights to Sydney Airport (SYD) in Australia typically cost between $2,300 and $3,600, according to Google Flights.
You can use the Google Flights price calendar to find low-cost options from Vancouver to Sydney but you'll want to be wary of the third party you book your ticket from when you browse the cheapest options.
Visit Fiji and Australia from Vancouver at a steal
Travellers can also visit Fiji and Australia for about the same price they'd pay to visit just one of the exciting destinations.
For example, a ticket that includes stays in both countries costs $1,447 including all taxes and fees.
The outbound flight departs Vancouver for Nadi on Feb. 23, 2024, and then heads to Sydney on March 5, 2024. The flight home from Australia departs on March 18 and includes one stopover in Nadi.
What travellers from Vancouver can experience in Fiji
Since it's an island destination, many of Fiji's most popular activities include swimming, snorkeling, surfing, sailing, scuba diving, stand-up paddle boarding, river rafting, and ocean kayaking. In fact, the county is also known as the the "Soft Coral Capital of the World," which makes underwater exploration a diver's dream.
But visitors will also find a wealth of fascinating places to explore on land. For one, Fiji has a rich history that dates back thousands of years, with "archaeological digs uncovering pottery shards dating back over 2,600 years," according to the Culture Trip.
