JetBlue has slashed flight prices as part of its spring sale, including the popular one from Vancouver to New York.
The New York-based low-cost carrier offers service to numerous cities across the U.S., Mexico, Central and South America, the United Kingdom, and Europe; Vancouver is the only Canadian city it flies to.
JetBlue is also the only airline that offers nonstop, direct service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
The Full Spring Ahead sale runs until March 21 so travellers need to book their flights immediately to take advantage of the discounted fares.
The sale applies to travel between April 2 and June 12 but not all dates are as cheap as others. To score the lowest cost option on the flight, use the Google Flight's price calendar or JetBlue's fare finder calendar to find the dates with the cheapest prices. If you only enter your preferred date on the website without using the calendars you won't get one of the low-price options.
Travellers can enjoy one-way, direct service from Vancouver to New York starting for just over $200. For example, a red-eye flight that departs YVR on Friday, April 12 at 10 p.m. and gets into JFK the following day at 6:30 a.m. costs $210 (see slide two).
Round-trip direct service for flights from YVR and JFK starts for under $400. For instance, a flight that departs YVR on Sunday, April 14 and returns to Vancouver from JFK on Friday, April 26 costs $370 (see slide four).
JetBlue has five different fare classes, as well as two memberships. For members, the rules for each fare class will change, allowing for more flexibility and inclusions than other guests.
The fare classes are Blue Basic, Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra, and Mint. For non-members, the lowest fare class, Blue Basic, won't allow for a great deal of flexibility or perks. For example, changes or cancellations come with a $100 USD or $200 USD price tag and don't include a carry-on bag (except for the new London route). Checked bags also cost extra, too (see slide two).
Adding additional cities on trips from Vancouver booked during JetBlue's sale
Travellers can add extra cities to their holiday itineraries from New York.
A trip that includes flights to New York and Miami costs about the same price as a ticket to just New York and adding multiple cities across the U.S. doesn't drive up the cost of a trip significantly.
Travellers can also include a trip to the Bahamas on their itinerary.
A one-way flight that departs from New York to Nassau in the Bahamas on April 16 costs US$64 on JetBlue’s website, which converts to roughly C$85.67 (see slide five).
A round-trip flight departs from New York to Nassau in the Bahamas on April 16 and returns on April 23 costs US$226, which converts to roughly C$305.92 (see slide six).
