Vancouver’s iconic amusement park, Playland, reopens to the public this Friday, July 10. However, guests will have to reserve tickets in advance if they plan to visit the park.
Starting tomorrow, guests may enjoy between 10-12 of the park’s most popular family-friendly rides and attractions. Some of the rides include: the Tea Cups, Balloon Explorers, Honeybee Express, Choppers, Kettle Creek Mine Coaster, Pacific Adventure Golf.
Additional rides will be added later this summer.
The park will be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and all tickets must be pre-purchased for specific dates and time slots. Tickets are available for mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Playland will also offer a limited number of food and beverage options such as mini donuts, Triple O’s, and candy floss. The park will use cashless procedures, so customers must bring tap enabled cards for purchase.
Playland will have an enhanced list of safety precautions to ensure the health and safety of all visitors and staff. These include:
- Limited capacity and transactions – capacity has been reduced to allow for physical distancing so you must purchase tickets in advance for date/time specific entry. Cash will not be accepted.
- Space for safety – practice physical distancing, keep 6 feet / 2 metres between your party and other guests. Plexiglass shields have been installed where possible.
- Clean hands often – wash regularly with soap. Use sanitizer before and after each ride. Enhanced cleaning measures have been added throughout the park.
- Masks required – face coverings must be worn in queue lines and on rides and they are recommended throughout the park.
And while there will be physical distancing measures and a reduced capacity of guests, Pacific National Exhibition Spokesperson Laura Ballance tells Vancouver Is Awesome in a phone call that there could still be hundreds of people in the park at a given time.
"Our regular capacity before COVID-19 was 1,100," states Ballance. "Now it is 550."
Currently, the Province prohibits mass outdoor gatherings of over 50 people at events. However, Playland isn't considered an event, but rather a 'facility.'
Admission to Playland includes unlimited rides within the designated date/time slot, and a souvenir Playland face mask. It is mandatory to wear a face covering while in queues and on rides.
As part of its COVID-19 protocols, all tickets must be purchased in advance online.
