Is the Maan Farms Haunted Corn Maze scary?

No, scary isn't the word for it - it is absolutely terrifying.

I ventured to Abbotsford from Vancouver on Friday, October 19 to see if the maze really was "over 5 acres of pure terror, consisting of scares that play on your senses like never before."

Moreover, I wanted to see if it could truly claim to be "the scariest corn maze in Canada."

Now, I'll be the first to admit: I've never been through a haunted corn maze in B.C., let alone the rest of Canada. With that being said, I watch as many horror films as I possibly can, and I have been to numerous haunted houses.

Nevertheless, there was something profoundly bone-chilling about this experience. For one, creatures on the adventure tear out of the seemingly quiet, perfectly still corn stalks, wielding chainsaws, deformed pig suits, and basically looking like all kinds of abominations from hell, and then they chase you. And they growl, speak in tongues, and giggle manically as they do it.

Adventurers be warned: upon arrival you will find a delightful barn with pumpkins a plenty, varietals of delectable berry wine, pumpkin pie, butter chicken, and much more. You may feel tempted to linger in this delightful place, and eat, drink, and be all around merry, but you'll be in for a long wait ahead.

While one of my friends warned me that these types of places have fairly long lineups, I was not prepared for the lengthy moonlit wait we endured outside the maze. Indeed, the lineup was probably close to an hour wait, if not more. Of course, the maze didn't open until 7 pm, and it attracts a substantial crowd. You can buy an express pass, but you will have to pay extra for that. And, if you decide to buy it too late, they do sell out. We found that part out the hard way.

Once you do make it inside the maze, however, it is an experience you won't soon forget. The first "monster" that ran toward us had us so scared that we toppled backward into the corn. After we got up, we were then chased into a giant haunted house and I was subsequently separated from my group. This was the scariest part for me, because I was isolated and some glow-in-the-dark, freaky, joker-clown thing was tormenting me. Let's just say clowns are not my cup of tea.

I won't spoil all of the surprises for you but I will say that the maze lasts for a fairly decent amount of time. Perhaps it isn't long when you compare it to the total time that you wait, but it certainly is long enough to scare the living daylights out of you. Also, you can make a nice trip over to the barn and pick up some candy, pie, wine or whatever you fancy as a treat for surviving. The blueberry wine was delectable and the pumpkin pie was delightfully spicy.
