Vancouver will be visited by Outkast's Andre 3000 on his "New Blue Sun" tour supporting his instrumental album of the same name on which he plays the flute.

As half of Outkast, Andre 3000 has been one of the biggest names in hip hop for well over 20 years, but he'll be bringing a different style of music to Vancouver this fall.

In October he'll be playing songs off his New Blue Sun album at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

New Blue Sun is an instrumental album on which he plays the flute, among other wind instruments; it has been described as ambient or new age in style.

The opening song's title offers a bit of an explanation of the shift in styles. It's called "I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a 'Rap' Album but This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time."

While some Outkast fans were uncertain about the album, others were excited. Notably, rock star Jack White hosted Andre 3000 and his group for four shows in May.

"They played some of the most honest and fearless music I've heard performed in quite some time," wrote White in an Instagram post.

The group is about to head out on tour, starting July 8 in Paris, France.

By the fall they'll be on the Pacific Coast and will make their way to Vancouver for a show on Oct. 11.
