Fraser Street's Bells and Whistles seems to have made a slam dunk with their concept, offering a laid-back but upscale take on the modern sports bar.
Now the restaurant and watering hole is doubling down and is opening a second Vancouver location, this time on the west side of town in Dunbar.
Bells and Whistles has taken over at 4497 Dunbar Street in the space that was The Dunbar Public House.
The space sits on the corner at 29th Ave, and boasts a patio. Seating in pre-COVID days and as The Dunbar, was capped at 84.
Operated by Gooseneck Hospitality (Wildebeest, Lucky Taco, Bufala) and opened in fall 2017, Bells and Whistles is tailored for guests who not only enjoy watching sports but also enjoy thoughtfully-prepared food with craft brews and ciders.
While food can often be a gut bomb throwaway scenario at a sports bar, Bells and Whistles keeps it classy - with some very compelling and creative twists. Look for a poutine made with waffle-cut fries loaded with cheese curds and fried chicken pieces, or their all-day breakfast burger. They've got sandwiches, loaded sandwiches and burgers, killer onion rings, and for dessert their soft serve sundaes make for a sweet finish. Hopefully the same can be said for the home team you're there to cheer on via the screens, too.
Additionally, Bells and Whistles is known for their special events and menus, like for Oktoberfest or Burger Week. They screen fun movies, and things like the Academy Awards. On the restaurant side, the venue is family-friendly, too, and they serve weekend brunch.
Their Dunbar outpost is currently in the hiring stages, and Bells and Whistles has been keeping a tight lid on their progress in the space and what we can expect from location number two. Opening expected later this summer. Follow @bellsandwhistlesyvr for updates.
