The owners of a Vancouver indie donut shop that closed suddenly at the start of the month are hoping their customers can rally behind them to finance a move to a new location.
Ooh La La Donuts, which was located at 4406 W 10th Ave, had been open since March 2023 and was a tenant in the distinct old blue building at the corner of 10th and Trimble that had once been the Point Grey Pharmacy.
On June 1, the business posted to social media that it was closed effective immediately, noting it was "due to circumstances completely out of [their] control."
According to a just-launched GoFundMe campaign organized by co-owner Nicholas Alexander, Ooh La La Donuts lost their space on West 10th "due to lease issues."
However, Alexander explains, a customer has offered the donuts and treat shop a location to move into. Now the business is hoping to raise funds "to assist in the move and renovations," according to the campaign.
"We would honour any donation with a gift certificate for our new shop," added Alexander.
Alexander says having the donut business has meant a lot to his family.
"The shop is my daughter’s dream to make people happy with donuts and love."
Ooh La La's menu mostly featured glazed yeast donuts in a variety of flavours, like London Fog, Tutti Fruiti (with Fruity Pebbles cereal), pineapple, and lavender. They also had a few chocolate cake-based donuts, like S'mores or Cookie Monster.
In addition to the donuts, Ooh La La sold freeze-dried candies and other treats in the shop.
The GoFundMe campaign is hoping to bring in $25,000.
