Craving "comfort food in a bowl" that won't break the bank?

Look no further than Dragon Bowl's newest Burnaby location.

The chain, which launched in Vancouver in February 2023 and now has locations in Richmond and New Westminster, opened its doors at 4929 Kingsway across from the Metrotown mall Monday.

Owner David Li said the eateries have been described the "Chinese version of Chipotle" — fast casual and offering build-your-own bowls ranging in price from $6.88 to $16.88, with a wide selection of veggie and protein options, from jumbo shrimp to pistol-leg chicken and lamb shoulder to beef brisket, as well as a vegan selection.

Add-ons include braised eggs, daily soups and more veggie options.

"We have a lot of Asian-based customers, and at the same time we have a lot of mainstream customers," Li said.

To celebrate its Burnaby opening, the store is offering two-for-one bubble tea as well as a chance to win prizes for customers who spend $30 or more.

Gift cards of $100 or more are also on sale for 20 per cent off, while gift cards over $200 are 25 per cent off.

Dragon Bowl also offers Dragon Club, where members can earn "dragon balls" for discounts on orders.

Li said he would have opened a Dragon Bowl on Kingsway earlier, but it was hard to find an available location.

Now, he's happy Dragon Bowl has a foothold in the heart of busy Metrotown.

"That's where all the population is," he said.
