'We are grand opening': Vancouver's Hello Kitty Cafe will be open soon

The interior looks nearly done and very pink.

It's been almost a year since it became clear Vancouver was getting a Hello Kitty Cafe, but it has not been clear until now when the popular Japanese brand would open on Robson.

With several target opening dates shared by the business online have come and gone, it appears the owners of Vancouver's Hello Kitty Cafe have finally made firm plans.

"We are grand opening on May 17," states the cafe's ownership on Google in response to a question.

Few other details have been released, and the cafe's curtains are drawn shut with duct tape blocking most views into the very pink cafe. That said, glimpses of the interior can be made out, showing a very pink space.

An Instagram account connected to the new cafe hasn't posted yet.

The space, at 1274 Robson St., was a bubble tea cafe previously.

Sanrio's Hello Kitty Café chain has three American locations with two in Las Vegas and another in Southern California. They also operate Hello Kitty Cafe trucks that pop up in various locations in the United States. In North America, there is also a Hello Kitty Cafe in Mexico City.

Sanrio also has a Gudetama Cafe in California.

The original U.S. Hello Kitty Cafe in Irvine, Calif. serves a menu featuring a "supercute selection of cookies, cakes, seasonal items and handmade hot and iced drinks."

Over the past near-year, V.I.A. has reached out to Sanrio's California HQ several times and has attempted to connect with the local cafe's owners but has not received any information.
