Ok, so posted on Bo Laksa King's a little while ago but didnt get around to trying the Burmese Pickled Tea Leaf salad. I went back about a week later to try it out as ive been dying to feel this super unique flavour that I tried at Burma Superstar in the Bay Area. Again, to my knowledge there are no Burmese restaurants in Vancouver and Im pretty sure this particular dish is unique only to Burma since I was told by Bo (the joint's namesake) that these tea leaves only grow on the south coast of Burma. Other Burmese dishes can taste similar to Indian or Thai cuisie but this is one of the most unique dishes you can every try in my opinion.
It may not be for everyone as even some of my Malaysian friends did not dig it and Malaysia is a regional neighbor to Burma. Nothing that radical though, one of my friends likened the tea leaf taste to something like anchovies. If you've tried Chinese pickled vegtables and liked it, you may like this as well. Def woth a try though for those who wanna try something entirely new.
